WIREHAIRED VIZSLA APPROVED FOR
EXHIBITION IN AUSTRALIA
FROM JANUARY 2007

PLEASE NOTE:
The Wirehaired and Smooth Vizsla are,
two separate breeds which cannot be bred together.
Should this happen, the result would be a cross-bred litter which cannot be registered

Australia's first pure-bred Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla, a male, was imported into the country a number of years ago however, breed recognition with the ANKC was not acquired at that time.

Some years after his arrival, this dog was offered for sale on the internet.

He was purchased by an obedience competitor who has owned and trialled Vizslas in the past.  It was thought he would be a good companion for her Gordon Setter following the death of an older Vizsla.  Unfortunately, this arrangement didn't work out and "Nelson" found his way to us.

Lilymere Delilah of Silvanus

By way of courtesy, Nelson's breeder in the UK was contacted and an instant friendship developed through which came the desire and means to have the breed recognised in Australia.

In June 2007 a young bitch was imported from Hungary to Queensland and, in July 2007 Penny arrived in Tasmania in whelp from the UK.

On 22nd August 2007 Penny whelped 5 pups and Koko in Queensland was awarded the breed's first class in group award.

We are honoured to be involved in the promotion and development of the breed within Australia.

The Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla is popular in both the USA and UK but is not eligible to achieve titles in these countries.  In it's homeland of Hungary, the breed has a dedicated following but the numbers are much lower.  Many Wirehairs in Hungary are kept as hunting dogs and pets and thus not registered or shown.
